Monika Herschberger was born in Vienna in 1976 and studied painting at the Vienna Art School with Gerhard Hermanky and jazz singing at the Vienna Conservatory. Since 2001, Monika Herschberger has exhibited in Austria and internationally, including at kleine galerie, Galerie IG Bildende Kunst, Palais Kabelwerk, Galerie am Lieglweg, and Galerie Toplev. Further appearances include ARTMUC in 2023 and ARTBADEN in 2025. Since 2023, Monika Herschberger has been represented by Atelier Galerie Roland Puschitz in Vienna.
Monika Herschberger’s paintings balance gestural lightness with opulent expressiveness, combining striking lines, graphic elements, and richly layered textures. A passion for colour, material, and movement drives an exploration of stillness and ecstasy, translating emotion into raw, vibrant, and intuitive compositions. Music, a longstanding companion to Monika Herschberger’s practice as a jazz singer, often sets the rhythm.
For Monika Herschberger, painting is a deeply physical process. Working intuitively across several canvases at once, Monika Herschberger layers acrylics and introduces chalk accents to build complex surfaces. Titles emerge only once each work is complete.
